Brighton Garden Club was invited to create a flower garden at the entrance to the Livingston Hunger Council’s vegetable garden. In 2021, the Victory garden was re-established with full sun, drought tolerant perennials that are low maintenance. The garden does include a pergola for shade, a winding path of creeping thyme to wander through, benches for resting and split rail fencing.
Plants are mostly pollinators with some tall grasses along the east and west perimeters as a wind break to minimize weed “volunteers” from seeds blown into the garden from surrounding fields. Volunteers work to maintain the garden April – September every other week or two. Activities by the pollinators (bees and butterflies) support the Livingston Hunger Council’s vegetable garden, which supports our local Gleaners Food Bank.
The Victory Garden is located on the grounds of NC Machine, at 7300 Whitmore Lake Road in Brighton.
